Advancing brain research

The Florey’s 2025 Annual Report, Advancing brain research, was launched on Wednesday 22 April 2026 at the Ian Potter Auditorium in Parkville.

The report highlights inspiring stories and important discoveries made by our researchers in 2025, and serves as a timely reminder of why the work of The Florey matters.

At the launch, we heard powerful stories of lived experience, as well as insights from some of our leading researchers working to advance understanding, prevention and treatment of brain and mental health conditions.

Topics and speakers on the night included:

  • Mental health and schizophrenia research and the inspiring support of Sally Beavis with Associate Professor Jess Nithianantharajah
  • Novel approaches to treating Alcohol Use Disorder with Professor Andrew Lawrence
  • Epilepsy research and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) with Professor Chris Reid and Dr Ming Soh
  • A father’s journey to the Moon and back with Stuart Place
  • Advances in dementia research and Alzheimer’s disease with Professor Scott Ayton and Dr Abdel Belaidi

It was our privilege to showcase some of the remarkable research being undertaken at The Florey and share how our neuroscience is creating real-world impact.
