Resilience, Connection and Mental Wellbeing in Later Life

Anthony Hannan, Francesca Alves and Ashley Bush
Florey Talk

Good brain health helps us live well as we age. Yet anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions are often overlooked in older Australians — and when dementia is involved the picture becomes more complex again, because the changes dementia causes in the brain can produce mental health symptoms of their own.

In this Florey Talk ‘Resilience, Connection and Mental Wellbeing in Later Life’, Professor Anthony Hannan and Professor Ashley Bush explored the science of resilience and the connection between mental wellbeing and cognitive health, and shared the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr Francesca Alves also discussed some of the biological mechanisms driving dementia progression, and what you can to today to protect your brain for tomorrow.

At The Florey, researchers are dedicated to understanding what shapes brain health and neurological disorders at every stage of life.
