Memory storage in the cortex

Memories are not only crucial for survival, but they make us who we are. How, and where, memories are stored in the brain is one of the great mysteries of neuroscience. Long-term memories can last a lifetime and involve significant changes to brain structure and function.

Aim

  • Address where and how memories are formed in the brain and provide insight into new targets to treat disorders of memory.

This project will address where, and how, memories are formed in the brain and provide insight into new targets to treat disorders of memory. We’ll use advanced imaging techniques to record the changes in neural activity during memory formation and retrieval. This process will then be disturbed using optogenetics, and the influence on memory-based behavior will be investigated.
