Biography
Dr Ian Birchall is the histopathology consultant for the Translational Cardiovascular and Renal Research Group.
Previously he was the Manager of the Neurohistology Laboratory and the Quality Manager of the National Dementia Diagnostics laboratory (NDDL), which is accredited for pathology testing for dementia-associated biomarkers.
Over the past 30 years Ian has been involved in both diagnostic and research activities in hospital pathology departments, medical device and tissue engineering companies and university research laboratories predominantly in and around Melbourne’s Parkville Biomedical Precinct.
In his role as the NDDL’s Quality Manager, Ian obtained ongoing National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) pathology testing accreditation for the Alzheimer’s disease and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) biomarker tests.
