Biography
Dr Elizabeth Kleeman is a postdoctoral researcher in the Neural Plasticity and Epigenetics Laboratory at The Florey. Her current work focuses on investigating the mechanisms underlying neuropathology in Long COVID.
There are currently no disease-modifying therapies for the neurological symptoms of Long COVID, including fatigue, insomnia, and brain fog. Dr Kleeman is exploring what neural and peripheral pathways may be contributing to these symptoms in an established mouse model of long COVID, in the hope of developing or repurposing treatments for this debilitating brain disorder.
Dr Kleeman completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2024, where she investigated the effects of paternal SARS-CoV-2 infection on offspring brain and behavioural outcomes. She then began her role as a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Anthony Hannan’s laboratory at The Florey in collaboration with Dr Marcel Doerflinger’s laboratory at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute.
