Appointment of Mr Martin Adams

The Board of The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Martin Adams as Chair of the Institute with effect from 2 August 2022.

Mr Adams has taken over from Mr Mark Jones AM, who has served on The Florey Board for the past 15 years and as Chair since 2020.   Prior to that, Mr Jones was on the Board of the Brain Research Institute for some 10 years and played a key role in the amalgamation of that institute with The Florey in 2007.

Mr Jones has held numerous positions at The Florey, including Honorary Treasurer and Deputy Chair from 2018 to 2020, as well as chairing multiple Board Committees over the years.

As The Florey Chair, Mr Jones’ visionary leadership guided the Future Florey Project – an initiative to review the Institute’s strategic direction. His intention to retire as Chair was foreshadowed to the Board in late 2021 as part of Chair succession planning.

“On behalf of the Board and the Institute, I would like to thank Mark for his dedication, leadership and invaluable contributions over the many years to The Florey, and particularly in the last two years as Chair.” said Mr Adams, “I am very honoured to be appointed as the next Chair, and I look forward to building on the incredible legacy developed over the past six decades at The Florey.”

Mr Adams joined the Florey Board in October 2021 and recently took on the roles of Deputy Chair and Chair of the Future Florey Subcommittee.

As a seasoned CEO, technology entrepreneur, investor and company director, he has held numerous directorships in private, public, and not-for-profit organisations, including Chairman of the Australian American Leadership Dialogue, Chairman of the University of Melbourne’s MAP Advisory board, Director of Oakton Ltd and co-founder and Director of Skalata Ventures.

Mr Adams holds an Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
