Professor Jane Gunn AO

FAHMS, FRACGP, PhD, DRANZCOG, MBBS

Professor Jane Gunn is a medical practitioner, PhD graduate, Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. She holds the inaugural Chair of Primary Care research at the University of Melbourne and is recognised for her leadership in traversing the research-practice gap.

Her research program in primary care mental health has twice been included in the NHMRC Ten of the Best collection, most recently in 2020. She has experience of serving on NHMRC Research Committee and Chairing numerous grant review panels.

Professor Gunn brings a decade of Board experience having served on the Boards of Northern Melbourne Medicare Local (2011–2015), Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (2016–2019), Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (2015–current) and Dental Health Services Victoria (2019–current).

In 2020, Professor Gunn was instrumental in guiding the University through the COVID-19 pandemic in her role as the Chief Public Health Adviser on the University of Melbourne leadership team for the pandemic response. Professor Gunn is committed to good governance, fostering collaborative research, mentoring the next generation and catalysing innovation. In 2018 Professor Gunn was appointed Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne and in February 2021 she was appointed interim Dean.
