Ms Kate Joel
BA, Post Grad Diplomas: Librarianship; Public Policy and Administration; Business Law
Ms Kate Joel has tertiary qualifications in journalism, theatre management, librarianship, public policy and administration and business law. Her degrees include a Bachelor of Arts and Post Graduate Diplomas in Librarianship, Public Policy and Business Law.
Originally from WA, Ms Joel moved to Melbourne in 1985 at the request of the Victorian Government to establish the QUIT program in Victoria. The model for QUIT, developed in WA became the world standard. From there she joined the Vic Govt Senior Executive Service and worked on large scale behaviour change programs with the Departments of Health, Labour and Transport.
Ms Joel moved to the private sector in the late 80’s and has consulted to a diverse range of business sectors over the past 30 plus years. Industries include telecommunications, mining, defence, federal, state and local government, entertainment, textiles and clothing, tourism and TAFE. Ms Joel specialises in communication strategies, strategic planning processes, community health behaviour change campaigns, corporate governance, media training, issues management and social licence to operate.
Ms Joel also managed the family business, Leonard Joel Auction House (fine arts and collectables) from the late 90’s until negotiating its sale in 2008. She transformed the 80 year old firm into an efficient and dynamic business with requisite systems and processes.
Directorships include 10 years on Melbourne Olympic Parks Trust and Racing Victoria Limited since 2014, firstly on Integrity Council (that she currently still Chairs) and then The Board since 2017.
Ms Joel is renowned for clear and practical thinking and results achieved by a systems and evidence-based approach, with integrity the overarching philosophy.
Ms Joel is passionate about the work of The Florey and has served on the Foundation Council since 2017.
