Australian Stroke Clinical Registry (AuSCR)

The Australian Stroke Clinical Registry (AuSCR) is a collaborative national program undertaken by consortium partners, The Florey, the Stroke Foundation, and the Stroke Society of Australasia (SSA) to monitor and improve the quality of acute stroke care. The data we collect guides hospital quality improvement activities to reduce variations in care and, ultimately, decrease preventable deaths, disability or recurrent stroke.

Participating hospitals submit data to the registry on patients admitted for acute stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA) at their hospital. Hospitals can use the online Australian Stroke Data Tool (AuSDaT) to:

  • review their hospital performance on key indicators of stroke care
  • track their performance over time or following quality improvement interventions
  • compare their performance to similar sized hospitals, hospitals within their state or all hospitals nationally
  • export data for local analyses or to support presentations, and publications
  • review patient outcomes collected at 3-6 months after admission by the AuSCR office.

Since 2009 over 80 hospitals have contributed data for over 160,000 acute stroke events, where more than 70,000 people with stroke have completed outcome surveys at 3 to 6 months following their stroke event.
