Mendelsohn Student Award

We invite all doctoral candidates who submitted a PhD in Neuroscience in 2025 to apply for the 2025 Mendelsohn Student Award.

Named in honour of Fred Mendelsohn, this prestigious Award recognises the achievements of outstanding doctoral students in neurosciences at the University of Melbourne.

We welcome applications from candidates undertaking either preclinical or clinical neuroscience research.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to students who meet the following criteria:

  • You are enrolled as a Graduate Researcher at the University of Melbourne (from any Faculty, School, Department or affiliated Institute).
  • You are conducting research in a field related to neuroscience.
  • You submitted your thesis between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025.

Awardee/s will receive a cash prize and have the opportunity to present their doctoral work at the Mendelsohn Award Ceremony Lecture in 2026.

How to apply

To apply, you must submit:

  • an abstract of achievements related to your PhD candidature and thesis (<3500 characters)
  • a CV, which must include the following highlights:
    • summary of scientific achievements (how your research findings have contributed to your field)
    • contribution to the research environment (e.g. mentoring, committee involvement)
    • science communication (e.g. organisation of/participation in events that lead to education of lay audiences)
    • scientific presentations (oral and poster)
    • publications (including preprints)
    • awards

Supervisors will then be contacted to provide a letter of support.
