Emeritus Professor David Ames AO graduated MBBS from the University of Melbourne in 1978 and has specialised in old age psychiatry since 1985. He trained in Melbourne and London and was a full time University of Melbourne Academic 1989-2015, serving as director of the National Ageing Research Institute 2007-2015 and editing the peer reviewed journal International Psychogeriatrics 2003-2011.
He is an author on over 350 papers in peer reviewed journals and co-editor of over 20 books including 4 editions of the reference text Dementia. Since 2006 he has chaired the Australian Imaging Biomarkers and Lifestyle study of ageing. His research interests include the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and the care of individuals with depression in late life.
